ASUS VG248QE: 144Hz 24-inch TN Gaming Monitor

The ASUS VG248QE is a 24 inch 144Hz monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution which is standard for displays this size. The monitor’s tested response time is 7ms with an input lag of 3ms. An upgrade kit that allowed users to install a G-Sync module into their ASUS VG248QE monitors was previously available but later discontinued. This is a bummer to say the least.

A unique selling point of the ASUS VG248QE is the GamePlus feature which shows crosshair overlay and has in-game timers. This comes off as gimmicky and most likely won’t be useful to most people. What is useful though is its NVIDIA LightBoost feature which with a program can enable the strobe backlight to almost entirely remove motion blurring. This is great for fast moving games where detail is critical to success. Turning on the motion blur reduction feature will cause a decrease in brightness and a drop in the refresh rate down to 120Hz. The good news is that the ASUS VG248QE is among the brightest monitors out there. We recommend you try the mod out and see for yourself which you prefer.

Aesthetically it’s very pleasing, but be aware the monitor is largely composed of a piano black finish which is a magnet for fingerprints. Out of the box, the VG248QE takes a little time to set the optimum color and contrast settings. We do not recommend you use any other mode aside from Standard Mode as the other modes like Game Mode or Night View Mode will ruin how it displays black. Thankfully with the power of the internet you can remove this chore and quickly throw in the best settings available out there.
