In the realm of shooters/role-playing games, Deus Ex is one of those that you look back on and reminisce on and just think of how nice the experience was. Deus Ex is a series of science-fiction games first released in 2000 with the title of the same name. While the games have different settings all around, they are all set in the same world and revolve around the same topics. The games combine action, and shooting with role-playing mechanics to create a complete experience that is hard to miss. Fans have been begging for more releases of Deus Ex for years, so we’re going to present you some Deus Ex statistics and facts, juuuuust in case they decide to do something with the series moving forward. Aside from Deus Ex, we also talk about a wide variety of gaming topics, so if you want to learn more about gaming industry revenue, don’t hesitate to check it out.

Deus Ex key stats

Since there hasn’t been too much news surrounding the Deus Ex franchise in a long time, we don’t expect there to be too much information regarding the series, but we’ll try out best to examine it and see how it has performed in the past, present, and to see if there are any directions where the series might go in the future.

The Deux Ex series has sold over 16.4 million copies.

(Source: VG Chartz)

  • The original Deus Ex sold 1.1 million copies.
  • Deus Ex: Invisible War sold 1.3 million copies.
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Human Revolution sold 12 million copies.
  • Deus Ex Go and The Fall sold 2 million copies.

In the first line of stats, we can see that the Deus Ex series did not manage to sell as many copies as some of its competitors and bigger games, given that Elden Ring managed to sell more copies than the entire franchise in the span of a few weeks, but that does not diminish the quality of Deus Ex nor does it mean that you shouldn’t try the games out.

A new Deux Ex game is in development.

(Sources: Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Embracer, Eurogamer, IGN)

  • Embracer Group acquired Eidos Montreal in a deal along with other assets like Square Enix in 2022.
  • The deal was worth $300 million.
  • Since then, a rumor came through saying that a new Deus Ex game was in development, but more details were unavailable.
  • Elias Toufexis, the voice actor for Deus Ex, has said that he does not know anything about a new game.

And after a wait of six years, the Deus Ex community was finally greeted by some nice news: a new game is in development. As amazing as this news is, we still have practically no information about the game, not even a release window. All we can do is hope for the best and that the franchise might be revived with a shiny new release.

The original Deus Ex game will get an Unreal 5 remaster.

(Source: DSOG Gaming)

  • The remaster is a fan-made project aiming to refresh the original game.
  • Their YouTube channel is called Surronti where they post updates and scene comparisons.
  • It is an ongoing project and there is no release announcement at the time of writing.
  • The project should fully support VR as well.

On top of a new game announcement, some of you will be happy to find out that the original Deus Ex is getting some much-needed attention and is getting a remaster at the hands of a dedicated fan. Surronti has been working on this project for a long time and we can’t wait to see where it leads!

Deus Ex Go is no longer playable on any platform.

(Sources: GameByte, Tech News Space, Games Hub)

  • Deus Ex Go was a mobile puzzle game released in 2016.
  • Studio Onoma was shut down as rumors mounted about an Embracer Group restructure.
  • With that, Studio Onoma announced that Deus Ex Go would be shutting down indefinitely and that in-game transactions would no longer work.
  • They urged current players to use up any items that they had in storage so they are not wasted.
  • The Studio also said that refunds were not a possibility.

This was some sad news, but it’s something that happens with many games when their time comes and when studios get bought by bigger companies. Deus Ex Go was a fantastic game, with replay value through the roof and a dedicated fan base that loved playing it, but it is sadly no longer with us.

The creator of Deus Ex has stated that he would not make Deus Ex today on account of conspiracy theorists.

(Source: PlayStation Lifestyle)

  • The game revolved around conspiracy theories that started in 2000 but came true in 2052.
  • The plot of the first game has references to vaccines, FEMA, and black helicopters.
  • The creator has stated that he would not like to appear to support the conspiracies that so many people believe today.
  • He was amazed at how their perspective on conspiracies in the games became a reality.

Deus Ex came out at a time when conspiracy theories existed, but they did not have as strong of a foothold as they do today. Today, you have conspiracy theorists everywhere, and creating a game like Deus Ex today would only fuel the fire and cause more people to fall into the same echo chambers. While we’re sure that this would not pose as much of a problem as perceived, you never know with some people.

To sum up

Alright, that concludes our dive into the history and statistics of the Deus Ex franchise! As you can see, the games haven’t gotten much publicity in recent years, and they weren’t talked about too much even during their hay day, but we tried to pull out as much information as possible to see how the series has performed. Be sure to come back when the new Deus Ex game is released as we will be covering it as well. We sincerely hope that you have enjoyed what we’ve had to say here and that you are happy with the information presented.
