When creators talk about the “Robux tax,” they usually mean Roblox’s marketplace fee — the cut Roblox takes whenever Robux changes hands in a transaction. You do not receive the full amount the buyer pays. The share you keep depends on what you are selling.

How the marketplace fee works

The core rule is simple: on many sales the seller ends up with only part of the listed price, with Roblox (and sometimes other creators) taking the rest. That is why people call it a tax — Robux can get reduced at multiple points as it moves through the system.

Fee splits by transaction type

Transaction typeYou keepMarketplace takes
Game passes / in-experience purchases~70%~30%
Avatar items (UGC) you created~30%~70%
Reselling limited items~70%~30% (10% Roblox, 20% original creator)

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the Robux sale price the buyer pays.
  2. Select what you are selling — game pass, UGC item, or limited resale.
  3. See the marketplace fee and how many Robux you keep.
  4. Optionally enable the USD cash-out estimate on your net Robux.

Examples

  • 100 Robux UGC shirt: you keep about 30 Robux ($0.11 at $0.0038/Robux cash-out).
  • 1,000 Robux game pass: you keep about 700 Robux after the ~30% marketplace fee.

Cashing out adds another layer

Even after you earn Robux, converting it to real money happens at a rate set by Roblox — currently around $0.0038 per earned Robux through cash-out programs. That is far below what players pay to buy Robux in the first place, so there is a second gap between buyer spend and what creators ultimately pocket. Why UGC feels steeper

For avatar and clothing items, the effective cut is much higher than on game passes. Sell a shirt for 100 Robux and you might see only about 30 Robux — that is where most of the complaints about the Robux tax come from. The 30% fee on game passes is closer to a standard app-store commission; the ~70% effective fee on UGC is the outlier.
