  • Download during install: 63.9 GB
  • Installed game size: ~67 GB

The minimum spec is genuinely low — an i3 and a GTX 640 will run the game at 720p. If you’re on a modern mid-range PC (anything with a GTX 1060/RX 580 or newer), you’ll run it at high settings without issue. RAM caps at 8 GB even for 4K maximum settings.

WoWs versions: PC, Blitz, and Legends

Before downloading, pick the right version:

World of Warships (PC) — the main game. Most ships, biggest maps, most depth. PC only. Everything on this site refers to the PC version unless stated.

World of Warships Blitz (iOS & Android) — mobile version. Smaller maps, faster matches (~5 minutes), more arcade-style. Good for mobile play, different from the PC game.

World of Warships: Legends (PlayStation, Xbox, iOS, Android) — console version. More arcade-like than PC, different Commander system, cross-platform play between consoles and mobile. Not the same account as PC WoWs.

How to download World of Warships on PC

Wargaming

Three options: Wargaming’s own launcher, Steam, or Epic Games Store. All three play in the same matchmaking pool.

Option 1: Wargaming website (Wargaming Game Center)

  1. Go to worldofwarships.com and create a Wargaming account if you don’t have one
  2. Click the Download Game button
  3. Run the downloaded installer — it installs the Wargaming Game Center launcher
  4. The launcher downloads the game files (63.9 GB — this takes a while on slower connections)
  5. Once complete, launch World of Warships from the Game Center and log in with your Wargaming account

Option 2: Steam

  1. Open Steam and search for “World of Warships”
  2. Click the game page, then Play Game to download and install
  3. Steam automatically creates a Wargaming account linked to your Steam account
  4. Launch the game through Steam

Note: A Steam-linked account can only be played through Steam. It plays in the same matchmaking pool as direct accounts but cannot be transferred to the Wargaming client.

Option 3: Epic Games Store

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher and search for “World of Warships”
  2. Go to the game page and click Install
  3. An Epic-linked Wargaming account is created automatically
  4. Launch the game through the Epic Launcher

The same restriction applies: the Epic account can only be launched via Epic. All three versions of the game play together in the same battles.

How to update World of Warships

Updates download automatically when you launch the game through the Wargaming Game Center, Steam, or Epic. You don’t need to do anything manually — just open your launcher and let it check for updates before starting.

If an update fails or the game won’t launch after an update:

  • In the Wargaming Game Center: click the gear icon next to the game and select Check and Repair
  • In Steam: right-click World of Warships in your library → PropertiesLocal FilesVerify integrity of game files
  • In Epic: go to the game in your library → three-dot menu → Verify

How to play World of Warships on Mac

World of Warships has no official Mac client. There are three workarounds depending on your Mac hardware:

Option 1: GeForce NOW (easiest — works on all Macs)

NVIDIA GeForce NOW streams World of Warships from NVIDIA’s servers to your Mac. No local install required.

  1. Download the GeForce NOW Mac client from nvidia.com/geforce-now
  2. Install and launch it, then search for World of Warships
  3. Click Play to launch a streaming session

Free tier: 1-hour sessions. Paid tiers remove time limits and improve stream quality. Performance depends on your internet connection — a stable 25+ Mbps connection is needed for a reasonable experience. Input lag is noticeable at high ping; less so on fast connections.

Option 2: Boot Camp (Intel Macs only — best performance)

Boot Camp installs Windows on a separate partition on your Mac, allowing you to run WoWs natively at full performance.

Does not work on M1/M2/M3 (Apple Silicon) Macs — Boot Camp was discontinued with Apple Silicon. Only for Intel Macs (generally models from 2020 or earlier).

  1. Check that Secure Boot is set to Full Security (System Preferences → Security)
  2. Open Boot Camp Assistant (Applications → Utilities)
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to partition your drive and install Windows
  4. Boot into Windows and install World of Warships via the Wargaming website

Native performance is excellent. The trade-off: you need to restart your Mac to switch between macOS and Windows.

Option 3: Parallels Desktop (Intel and Apple Silicon)

Parallels virtualises Windows inside macOS — no restart required. Supports both Intel and M-series Macs.

Performance is lower than Boot Camp — playable but framerates are inconsistent. Cost: ~$99.99/year for Parallels + a Windows licence.

Comparison:

MethodDifficultyWorks on M-seriesPerformanceCost
GeForce NOWEasy✅ YesDepends on internet~$9.99/mo
Boot CampModerate❌ NoNative (best)Windows licence
ParallelsModerate✅ YesModerate~$100/yr + Windows

GeForce NOW is the practical choice for most Mac users. If you have an Intel Mac and a stable connection, Boot Camp gives the best experience.

How to play World of Warships on Linux / Steam Deck

World of Warships has no native Linux client but runs through Steam via Proton:

  1. Open Steam → Settings → Steam Play
  2. Enable Steam Play for supported titles and Enable Steam Play for all titles
  3. Search for World of Warships in the Steam Store and install it
  4. Launch from your Steam library — Proton handles compatibility automatically

Steam Deck uses the same process. Performance varies by Proton version; check the current compatibility status on ProtonDB.

How to download World of Warships Blitz (mobile)

Android: Open Google Play Store → search “World of Warships Blitz” → Install

iOS: Open App Store → search “World of Warships Blitz” → Get

How to download World of Warships: Legends (console/mobile)

PlayStation: PlayStation Store → search “World of Warships: Legends” → Download

Xbox: Microsoft Store / Xbox Store → search “World of Warships: Legends” → Install

Android / iOS: Same process as Blitz above — search “World of Warships Legends” in your respective store

Is World of Warships free?

Yes. World of Warships (PC), WoWs Blitz, and WoWs: Legends are all free to download and play. Premium ships, Premium Account time, and cosmetics are available for purchase but not required.

How much space does World of Warships take?

The launcher is 6.5 MB but downloads ~64 GB of game files during installation. After installation the game occupies about 67 GB. Reserve at least 110 GB of free disk space to accommodate the install process and future updates.

Can I use the same account on PC and console?

No. PC World of Warships and WoWs: Legends are separate games with separate accounts. Your PC account progress doesn’t transfer to console. WoWs: Legends does support cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile — see the accounts and crossplay guide for details.

Can I switch between Steam and the Wargaming client?

You can link a Wargaming-created account to Steam after the fact, but a Steam-created account stays tied to Steam. All clients (Wargaming website, Steam, Epic) play in the same matchmaking pool — you can be in a Division with friends on different clients.
