The 3000 XT series of CPUs comes with modestly higher boost clocks compared to the regular 3000 series of CPUs. The small frequency boost translates into virtually no gains in gaming or productivity performance. Luckily, the new CPU series didn’t also include a new chipset, meaning you can use the existing motherboards with Ryzen XT CPUs.

The 3900XT is the most expensive of the bunch, and while it’s a capable gaming CPU and a productivity monster, it just doesn’t make much sense to get one. If you happen to get one, you’ll need a powerful board to run it without issues. After we covered the best motherboards for Ryzen 5 3600XT and best motherboards for Ryzen 7 3800XT, the time has come to present you the best motherboards for Ryzen 9 3900XT.

In this article, you’ll find only B550 and X570 motherboards. As we’ve already noted, B450 boards are increasingly hard to find. And those selling for their original price are low-end models with poor VRMs. Before we continue, we recommend reading our list of the best air cooler for Ryzen CPUs since the 3900 XT demands a capable cooling solution. Also, check out our full AM4 CPU list. It includes every single CPU based on the AM4 CPU socket.

Ok, if you want the overall best board for the 3900 XT, get the MSI X570 MEG Godlike. This board has all the features you’ll ever need and then some. An overkill VRM that could easily be used for Threadripper CPUs. Support for 5000MHz DDR4 memory. Triple M.2 slots along with a bundled card that includes two additional M.2 slots along with four SATA III ports.

Three PCIe x16 slots with support for SLI and Crossfire, along with one PCIe x1 slot. Dual Gigabit LAN made of 1Gb LAN port and 2.5Gb LAN port. You also get an add-on card with the board that includes a 10 Gb LAN port. The board also boasts Wi-Fi 6 chip that includes Bluetooth 5.1.

The good thing is that the wireless card is installed into a dedicated M.2 slot, so you can replace the chip with a better one in the future. The audio section contains two Realtek ALC1220 Codecs along with ESS E9018 DAC for crystal clear audio. You can use high-end Hi-Fi headphones with the MEG X570 Godlike thanks to the 6.3mm headphone jack found on the rear panel.

The rear panel also includes six USB 3.2 ports, one USB-C port, a selection of audio jacks, a BIOS flashback button, and a clear CMOS button. OC features continue with debug LEDs and a small display that replaces the POST code.

This is the best X570 board because it isn’t the most expensive one while offering everything found in other premium X570 boards. We would only like to see a 10Gb LAN port on the rear panel and not on the add-on card, but hey, you can’t have it all.

4. MSI MAG B550M Mortar: Best mATX motherboard for Ryzen 9 3900XT

Memory
4× DDR4 DIMM
max. 128 GB

The MSI B550M Mortar isn’t the best of the best mATX board. Still, even with its downsides, this is the best Micro ATX motherboard for the Ryzen 9 3900 XT. It’s a shame ASUS didn’t create a B550 or X570 variant of the excellent ROG Strix Z490-G Gaming board that’s the best mATX board for 10th gen Intel CPUs.

Nevertheless, the MSI B550M Mortar can run overclocked 3900X, so we are sure it will run the 3900 XT with zero issues. It doesn’t even need high airflow inside the case because it has excellent VRM that is fully ready for any Ryzen CPU. Other features are pretty good for an mATX card.

You have dual M.2 slots and support for 4400MHz DDR4 memory. You also get two PCIe x16 slots with the second one working at x4. Despite this, the MSI B550M Mortar supports Crossfire. The board also includes two PCIe x1 slots.

This motherboard includes Wi-Fi 6 along with Bluetooth 5.1. Again, the Wi-Fi chip is preinstalled on the M.2 slot on the board so you can replace it down the line. Wired connectivity includes a 2.5Gbps LAN port.

The rear panel isn’t the richest on the market, but it’s pretty solid. There are four USB 3.2 ports, along with two USB 2.0 ports and a selection of audio jacks. When talking about audio, this board features Realtek ALC1200 Codec found on many mid-range models. Oh yeah, you also get six SATA III ports.

5. Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX: Best Mini-ITX motherboards for Ryzen 9 3900XT

Memory
2× DDR4 DIMM
max. 64 GB
Storage
2× M.2
4× SATAIII

Yes

We are glad that the Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX, MSI MPG B550I Gaming Edge WiFi, and ASUS ROG Strix B550-I Gaming are all excellent and relatively affordable Mini-ITX boards on the market that can host any Ryzen CPU. If you need an M-ITX case to host your next SFF PC, you should check out our list of the best Mini-ITX cases.

Due to the Mini-ITX form factor constraints, the lack of multiple PCIe M.2 slots and multiple PCIe 4.0 x16 slots on the B550 chipset is irrelevant when talking about SFF motherboards.

The board our vote for the best ITX motherboard for 3900 XT goes to is the Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX. This is the cheapest board of the bunch that offers great specs for less cash than the rest of the pack.

The VRM is as good as on the MSI and ASUS boards, and we are sure that the Gigabyte B550 Mini-ITX board won’t have issues running the 3900XT. Spec-wise the board’s pretty good aside from one caveat. You’ve got dual M.2 slots (only one is PCIe 4.0) along with a single PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and support for fast, 5300 MT/s, DDR4 memory.

You also get four SATA III ports, along with 2.5Gb LAN ports. Another nice thing is the Wi-Fi 6 chip along with Bluetooth 5 connectivity. The Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX also has six USB 3.2 ports on the back, which is pretty good for a Mini-ITX mobo. That caveat we’ve talked about earlier is the lack of a USB-C front panel connector, which could be a deal-breaker for some users.
