Dell S2417DG: 165Hz 24-inch G-Sync TN Gaming Monitor

The Dell S2417DG is the company’s second high refresh rate monitor. The monitor is very similar to the Dell S2716DG, a 27-inch 144Hz TN panel monitor that Dell released to compete with high end monitors. This time Dell stepped it up and boosted their refresh rate to 165Hz!

The Dell S2417DG’s 24-inch size coupled with its 2560 × 1440 resolution means you’ll be getting a monitor with a great pixel density of 122 pixels per inch. This is a definite improvement from the 92 pixels per inch that most 24 inch monitors sport.

The monitor, like its predecessor, has a TN panel. These are inferior to IPS panels in terms of color reproduction and viewing angles, but make up for it in low response time and affordability. It has the standard characteristics of a TN panel and includes a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350cd/m2 brightness, and 16.7 million color depth.

To accompany all this goodness is NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology which will prevent screen tearing, stuttering, and ghosting by syncing the monitor’s refresh rate to your graphics card’s frame rate. You will need to have a compatible NVIDIA card, however. The monitor also supports NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 meaning that if you’ve got the necessary glasses then you can experience that sweet 3D gaming.

Dell S2417DG back

Aesthetically the Dell S2417DG appears like a 24-inch version of the S2716DG. It has a sleek grey metallic look to its stand and a piano black finish on the back of the monitor. It has a very slim bezel meaning it can be used in multi-monitor setups, but again it’s a TN panel with limited viewing angles. The stand allows for height, tilt, pivot, and swivel adjustment for ergonomics. If that isn’t enough the monitor is VESA compatible meaning that you can easily use a custom monitor arm. Additionally, it has a stylish cable management hole for convenience and organization.

In terms of connectivity, the monitor has just two graphical inputs, one DisplayPort 1.2a, and an HDMI 1.4 port. In addition to this, however, it has a USB 3.0 hub with 4 ports.
