Gold cards are the most valuable cards in Coin Master — and the most frustrating. They have a low drop rate from chests, and unlike every other card in the game, you can’t trade them freely with friends. That combination makes them the most common reason a card set sits unfinished for weeks. Here’s everything you need to know about how they work, how to get them, and what to do when you’re stuck.
What are gold cards?
Gold cards are a rare tier of card in Coin Master, visually distinguishable by their gold border. They function the same as any other card — you need them to complete card sets, and completing sets rewards you with spins, coins, or pet XP. The difference is in how hard they are to obtain.
Two things make gold cards harder to collect than rare or extremely rare cards:
- Low chest drop rate — gold cards are uncommon even in magical chests, which have the best odds of any chest type
- No free trading — gold cards cannot be sent to or received from friends outside of a dedicated Gold Card Trade event
That second point is what makes them genuinely scarce. Even if a friend has the exact gold card you’re missing, neither of you can do anything about it unless a Gold Card Trade event is currently active.
How to get gold cards

Open chests — especially magical chests
Chests are the primary source. Magical chests have the highest gold card drop rate of any chest type. Wooden and golden chests can also contain gold cards, but the odds are significantly lower.
The most effective approach is to open chests in boom villages — specific villages where the community has consistently observed better card drop rates, including gold cards. Pause your village progression when you reach one and open chests before moving on.
The more free spins you can stack before a chest-buying session, the more coins you can accumulate and the more chests you can open in one run.
Wait for Gold Card Trade events
Gold Card Trade events run periodically — roughly two to three times a month, though the schedule isn’t fixed. When one is active, the trading restriction on gold cards is temporarily lifted, and you can send and receive gold cards with friends.
This is the fastest route to getting a specific missing gold card. If you’re coordinating with friends or teammates in a Coin Master trading group, identifying which gold cards you each need in advance means you can act immediately when the event opens.
Use a Joker card
A Joker card can substitute any missing card in a set, including gold cards. This makes it the most powerful tool for breaking through a gold card block — but it should be saved for that specific purpose. Using a Joker on a rare card that might still drop from a chest is a waste. Save it for the gold card that’s the last thing standing between you and a set completion.
Events
Some events award chests directly as prizes — Viking Quest is the best example. Stacking chest rewards from events and opening them all in a boom village is one of the highest-yield approaches for gold card hunting.
How to send and trade gold cards

Gold cards can only be sent during Gold Card Trade events. During those events you can send gold cards to friends through the in-game Cards menu by selecting the card and tapping Send. Outside of events, the send option is not available for gold cards. Coordinate with trading groups during events to swap cards you each need.
What gold cards are worth

Gold cards have no fixed in-game value. Their worth in trades is determined entirely by how much another player needs the card. A gold card blocking someone’s last set completion is worth far more to that player than one they already have duplicates of.
The most sought-after gold cards are the ones tied to sets with the highest spin or coin rewards on completion. Within trading groups, players generally negotiate based on which set each card unlocks.
FAQ
Can I get gold cards without spending real money?
Yes. Chests can be bought with coins earned from free spins, raids, and attacks. You don’t need to spend real money — but gold cards are rare enough that getting them purely from free play takes patience. Maximising your free spins is the most effective free-to-play approach.
How often do Gold Card Trade events happen?
Roughly two to three times a month, but Moon Active doesn’t publish a fixed schedule. The event appears as an in-game notification when it goes live.
Why can’t I send a gold card to my friend?
Gold cards can only be traded during active Gold Card Trade events. Outside of those windows the send option doesn’t appear for gold cards, regardless of whether you have duplicates.
Do gold cards drop from all chest types?
Gold cards can drop from wooden, golden, and magical chests. Magical chests have the best odds. Boom villages improve the odds across all chest types.
What’s the difference between a rare card and a gold card?
Rare cards have a low drop rate but can be traded freely at any time. Gold cards also have a low drop rate but cannot be traded outside Gold Card Trade events. A rare card and a gold card may both be blocking your set, but the solution for each is different.
Is it safe to trade gold cards in Facebook groups?
There are active Coin Master trading communities on Facebook. The risk with group trading is scams — always use moderated groups with clear rules, trade in small steps with players who have a track record, and never share your account details or make off-platform payments.
