An attack in Coin Master happens when the slot machine lands on three hammers. The game sends you to another player’s village, you tap a building to hit it, and if it isn’t protected you earn coins and damage that building. That building drops a level on the defender’s side, and they lose a star. Attacks are the second main coin-earning action after raids — and unlike raids, what you earn from an attack depends on whether the target is protected or not.
How attacks work
- Spin and land on three hammer symbols — this triggers an attack
- The game loads a target village automatically. You can also switch to a friend or a Revenge target from the list at the top of the screen
- Tap any building in the village to attack it
- If the target has no shield and Rhino doesn’t block: the building takes damage, drops a level, and you earn coins
- If the target has a shield: the shield absorbs the attack, no damage, no coins for you
- If Rhino blocks: same result — no damage, no coins
A successful attack earns you coins scaled to your bet multiplier. Attacking at x10 earns ten times the coins of attacking at x1.
What happens when your village is attacked
When an attack lands on your village:
- The hit building drops one level — you’ll need to spend coins to repair it
- You lose one star from that building
- If you had a shield, it absorbs the hit instead — building takes no damage, shield is consumed
Damage is per building, not per village. Only the building that was tapped takes the hit. Unbuilt or partially-built buildings can be attacked just like completed ones — leaving a village unfinished is a risk.
Shields
Shields are your primary defence. You get them by landing on the shield symbol during a spin. You can hold up to three shields at once — collecting a fourth does nothing until one is used. Each shield absorbs one attack.
Your current shield count is visible near the Spin button on the main screen.
The standard defensive strategy is to stack three shields before logging off, then restock them when you play again. A village under construction is especially vulnerable — prioritise shields during building phases.
Rhino
Rhino provides a second layer of defence on top of shields. When active and fed, Rhino has a chance to block an attack automatically — even if you have no shields. At level 1 the block chance is 10%; at max level it reaches 70%.
Rhino runs passively, including while you’re offline. The recommended pattern: activate Rhino before logging off for any extended period. Rhino + three shields together is the strongest defensive setup available.
Tiger
Tiger is the attack pet. When fed and active, it adds a coin bonus to every successful attack you land. The bonus scales with Tiger’s level. Activate Tiger before doing an attack session — especially during Attack Madness or Ultra Attack events, where Tiger’s bonus stacks with the event multiplier for the highest possible coin yield per hit.
Attack strategy
Target players who are offline. A friend who hasn’t been online today is less likely to have shields stacked or Rhino active — making attacks more likely to connect. You can see rough activity levels in your friends list.
Use the Revenge list. When someone attacks you, they appear in your Revenge list. Tapping Revenge lets you attack that specific player back instead of accepting a random target.
Sync with events. Attack Madness fills a progress bar as you attack, paying out spins and coins when complete. Ultra Attack multiplies attack earnings. Running Tiger during either of these events stacks all three bonuses simultaneously. Keep an eye on the events schedule to time your attack sessions.
Bet higher when you have coins to spare. Attack payouts scale directly with your bet multiplier. Attacking at x10 with Tiger active during Attack Madness is the maximum coin-per-attack combination.
Build and spend quickly. Coins sitting in your balance are coins that can be lost. Build village items as fast as you earn enough — a completed building can’t go below level 1 from being attacked, but unbuilt space gives attackers targets on a half-finished village.
Can you hide your village from attacks?
No. There’s no official way to prevent other players from attacking your village. Your village is always visible as a potential target.
The community refers to “Ghost Mode” — playing in guest mode (logged out of Facebook) — as a way to reduce attacks from friends connected to your social network. While this may reduce friend-based attacks, it cuts off card trading, spin gifting, invite rewards, and the Loyalty Club. The trade-off makes it impractical for most players.
The practical best defence is shields + Rhino + spending coins quickly rather than stockpiling them.
Attacks vs raids
| Attacks | Raids | |
|---|---|---|
| Triggered by | Three hammer symbols | Raid symbol |
| What you do | Tap a building | Dig three (or four with Foxy) holes |
| Best pet | Tiger | Foxy |
| Earns | Coins (if unshielded) | Coins from buried stashes |
| Damages opponent | Yes — building drops a level | No — only takes buried coins |
| Can be blocked | Yes — shields or Rhino | No block mechanic |
FAQ
How do attacks work in Coin Master?
Land on three hammers when spinning. The game takes you to a target village where you tap a building. If the target has no shield and Rhino doesn’t block, you earn coins and the building takes damage.
How do you protect your village from attacks?
Shields absorb one attack each — stack up to three. Activate Rhino for a chance to block attacks even without shields. Build your village quickly and spend coins rather than stockpiling.
How many shields can you hold in Coin Master?
Three. Collecting beyond three does nothing until one is consumed by an incoming attack.
What does Rhino do against attacks?
Rhino has a chance to block an incoming attack automatically, including when you’re offline. Block chance starts at 10% (level 1) and rises to 70% at max level.
Does attacking damage the other player’s village permanently?
No — it drops the hit building one level, but the player can repair it by spending coins. Stars lost from the hit are also recovered by repairing.
Can you choose who to attack in Coin Master?
The game assigns a target automatically, but you can switch to a friend or a Revenge target from the list at the top of the attack screen before striking.
Is there a way to stop being attacked?
No. Attacks are part of the core game and can’t be turned off. Shields and Rhino minimise damage; spending coins quickly minimises what you have to lose.
