Wargaming allows client-side mods in World of Tanks as long as they don’t touch game files that give an unfair advantage (aimbots, auto-aim, or anything server-side is bannable). Everything below is a HUD, information, or quality-of-life mod you can install safely. This guide covers PC World of Tanks only — World of Tanks Blitz and World of Tanks Modern Armor don’t support third-party mods.

Where to get World of Tanks mods

Only install mods from one of these two sources. Everything else — old fan sites, random download links in YouTube descriptions, forum .zip files — carries a real risk of malware bundled with the mod files.

  • Mod Hub — Wargaming’s own official, curated mod portal. Every mod here has been checked and approved, and it updates same-day with each new WoT patch. This is the safest place to start.
  • Aslain’s Modpack — a long-running, well-trusted installer that bundles hundreds of individual mods into one configurable package with its own launcher. You pick which mods you want during install and disable the ones you don’t.

Both update their mod list every major patch, so always grab the current version rather than reusing an old installer — mods built for an older client version can break your game or simply fail to load.

What to look for

The most useful mod categories in World of Tanks are:

Damage panels and battle HUD

Replaces the stock damage log with a cleaner readout of who’s hitting what, penetration results, and remaining HP — the single most popular mod category on Mod Hub. Look for one that also adds an angle indicator, which shows your current armor angling in real time and makes it much easier to bounce shots. On Mod Hub, search damage panel / battle interface packs that list current-patch support.

HD minimaps

Swaps the flat, low-detail stock minimap for a higher-resolution version with clearer terrain and cover markers. Useful for faster map reading, especially on maps you don’t know well yet.

Crosshairs and aiming reticles

Custom reticles that show shell flight time, dispersion more clearly, or a resized aiming circle. Purely visual — no aim assistance is involved, so these stay within Wargaming’s mod policy.

XVM and session stats

XVM (eXtended Visualization Mod) is the long-running HUD customization layer many players still use for colored markers, session stats, and minimap extras. Install it via Aslain or a current Mod Hub–approved build — never from random mirrors.

Modpacks (all-in-one bundles)

Aslain’s Modpack is the standard here — rather than hunting for a dozen individual mods, you install one package and toggle the ones you want (HUD elements, sound packs, garage themes, minimaps) from a single configuration screen.

How to install World of Tanks mods safely

  1. Download the mod or modpack from Mod Hub or Aslain’s site only
  2. Extract the files if needed
  3. Copy the mod folder into the mods or res_mods folder inside your World of Tanks install directory, matching your current game version folder
  4. Restart World of Tanks — the mod should load automatically

Uninstall or update mods after every game patch. A mod built for the previous client version can fail silently, crash your client, or in rare cases get flagged during Wargaming’s fair play checks — always match your mod versions to your current client version.

What are mods in World of Tanks?

Mods are community-made or Wargaming-approved modifications that change the game’s interface or presentation — HUD layout, minimaps, damage panels, sounds, and similar — without altering core gameplay mechanics or giving players hidden information they couldn’t otherwise access.

Are mods safe to use in World of Tanks?

Mods from the official Mod Hub or Aslain’s Modpack are safe and widely used by the community. Mods from unofficial or unverified sources carry a real risk of malware, and mods that alter core gameplay mechanics (aimbots, wallhacks, auto-aim) can get your account banned. Stick to Mod Hub and Aslain’s — both are named and vetted directly by Wargaming’s own community team.

What’s the difference between Mod Hub and Aslain’s Modpack?

Mod Hub is Wargaming’s own official portal — every mod is individually reviewed and approved, and you download mods one at a time. Aslain’s Modpack is a third-party (but long-trusted and Wargaming-acknowledged) installer that bundles hundreds of mods into a single configurable package, letting you toggle categories on and off during setup.

Can I use mods in official World of Tanks tournaments or events?

No. Mods are typically disabled or prohibited in official tournaments and competitive events, and using them can result in disqualification. Random battles and most in-game modes allow approved mods without restriction.

Do mods work in World of Tanks Blitz or Modern Armor?

No. Third-party mods are a PC World of Tanks feature only. World of Tanks Blitz (mobile/PC/Switch) and World of Tanks Modern Armor (console) don’t support the same client-side mod system. If you’re comparing titles, see World of Tanks vs World of Tanks Blitz.
